An AI generated image of the visual representation of AI
An AI generated image of the visual representation of AI

I know I’m not the only creative interested in the use of AI and what it means for the art of filmmaking. I'm curious about the line—when does a creative work stop being your own idea and become just a product of the AI? If you use it to compile resources or brainstorm sequences, is it still your original work? Is AI not a new medium or canvas?

I honestly don't know where I stand on the issue. On one hand, I appreciate the personal assistant aspects of AI for compiling data. On the other, I question when an idea becomes less of my own and more of an algorithm's. I believe there are implications to its use, and I'm curious to see how—if at all—it could be implemented in a way that isn't forced on the public.

With complete honesty, I believe that big, commercially successful movies could all become products of AI. In return, I believe a new market will emerge for filmmakers who choose not to rely on AI for their ideas. I’d honestly like to see a blend of the two, which admittedly, we’ll likely see.

I'm a huge fan of new technologies and tools, and I believe AI is just that—a tool that should be used as such. I see plenty of practical applications for it, and I personally enjoy using it for brainstorming and fleshing out ideas. It doesn't replace speaking to other people, but I don’t think it should be completely shunned. While there is great potential for its misuse, I fully expect a new market for completely AI-generated media to emerge alongside those artistic purists who will crave "original," human-made art.

In any case, this blog entry has been refined by AI. I wrote out all of my ideas, and essentially had Gemini condense and better organize the information. Does this means these thoughts are less original? I suppose that ultimately, it is up to each individual person to to choose what they will and will not accept in their art.
